BDO ASPIRE TO BE DEADLY – Celebrating the collaboration between Cairns Hockey Community and Aspire to be Deadly Schools across Cairns and remote communities of Torres Strait Islands.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS MIGI KOKAN HOCKEY PROGRAM – TORRES STRAIT ISLAND PROGRAMS

• Local schools continue to invest and support this program
• Invited locally to deliver sustaining education and training programs with community including family of participants to support sustaining and advancing outcomes
• Local support being provided to ensure financial sustainable
• Looking to broaden programs into grades 7and 8
• Pathway Programs supported
• Attendance increases as part of this program in addition to behaviour and respect program requirements
• Skill development improving aligning with team development and support

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS – CAIRNS WEST STATE SCHOOL PROGRAMS

 

• Participants in the Aspire Program has almost doubled
• 4 Aspire Mentors now support this program
• 2 mentors attend school each Wednesday
• 2 teams compete regularly in local competition
• Attendance continues to increase for those students involved in this program
• Behaviour is also being modified and becoming part of the team is taking on peer significance
• Aspire participants selected as school house captains and leaders
• Families investing in these programs
• Young people nominating and being selected in pathway programs
• Broadening partnerships to support identified outcomes

TALENT PATHWAYS PROGRAMS

  

• Built into all Aspire to be Deadly Programs is a talent pathways mentor and support program that will provide opportunities for Aspire participants to develop increased self -worth and self confidence through involvement in Cairns and or State Schools Representative Pathways.
• 2018 sees more young people meet the requirements and exceed the outcomes across TURN UP WORK HARD AND ASPIRE TO BE DEADLY and as a result more participants through the program are eligible for selection
• Currently we have 8 young people identified in 2018 almost double that of 2017
• Our Role Model and Leadership Pathways Program supports identified and selected players inviting them our Ambassadors and Role Models to work with the participants to prepare them for these opportunities both on and off the field
