ASPIRE TO BE DEADLY 2020 – JOIN OUR JOURNEY

ASPIRE AND CAIRNS WEST STATE SCHOOL – PLAY SPACES
With the assistance and support of Cairns Hockey and Clubs, the Aspire Program has strengthened and through its collaboration with Cairns West State School, it is exciting to announce a new and expanded community program which will support a emerging hockey program delivered at Cairns West State School for Grade 3-6 played after school under the branding of DEADLY 5’S and will support importance of regular physical activity and healthy eating choices.

This Deadly 5’s Program will be focusing on the Play Space principles and aligns with Aspire Live Well Learn Well Lead Well. It will be a 25week program and will include the trial of our Aspire Student Journal which supports national curriculum delivery in PE and through the pilot our students can be graded as part of physical education. Cairns Hockey Aspire will be at Cairns West each Wednesday afternoon and the program will be driven around Safe Spaces, supporting the Live Well Learn Well Lead Well through Play Spaces. There could be upwards of 30 participants across this program. This may expand as Cairns West Cluster School Program grows
Another Play Space initiative is Aspire Hockey Holiday Fun Places – this is a refreshed holiday program which will be delivered across school holidays – date and times to be confirmed and delivered at Cairns West State School. It is aimed at opportunities for indigenous young women and girls but as an inclusive program, young indigenous boys and all non -indigenous Cairns West students are welcome. We are excited with this new development.

NEW PROGRAM INTO CAIRNS HOCKEY 2020 – ASPIRE Grade 6 Club Transition Program

Talk to your club and they will contact us

It is great news to be able to confirm that the hockey nursery nurtured and advanced through the Aspire Cairns West Teams in 2018 and 2019 and through the commitment and collaboration of Aspire Schools, volunteers, clubs and our Aspire Team, we will have a significant number of Grade 6 students who will transition into Cairns Junior Clubs in 2020  Numbers will not be confirmed for a few weeks but there will be somewhere between 10 -20 young boys and girls that could be available to transition into club teams for season 2020. More conversation with school and clubs is needed before we can announce the final details on how this will be rolled out.

These young people will continue to be part of the Cairns Hockey Aspire Program and a specialized mentor support programs will be created to ensure school attendance targets are met and exceeded, positive behavior, respect, and responsibility programs are committed to and clubs will be expected to embrace the Live Well Learn Well Lead Well cultures and commitments should they choose to be involved in this program.
More conversation with Clubs around this transition will be actioned and this will include
– How the transition school to club will be rolled out
– How to access financial support
– How to access Mentor Support Programs
– Reporting and Assessments

This is very exciting and shows the benefit of longer-term community collaborations.
