Exciting Times to be involved in Cairns Hockey

You might think its time to focus of finals - you might be surprised Cairns Hockey has lots happening before we turn our attention to the 2016 Final Series. This week we have committee meetings designed to support Cairns Hockey and its future, next week we have the Under 12 School Sport National Hockey Titles, then a competition development workshop, we are involved in state wide strategic plans in Brisbane, we have Aspire Program in full swing, Ric Charlesworth clinics and workshops as well as the fantastic dinner, Awards Evening, Junior Breakups and Finals. 1st-5th August 2016 School Sport Under 12 National Hockey Championships in Cairns

Cairns Hockey is looking forward to hosting the 2016 School Sports Under 12 National Hockey Championships. Teams competing in both the Boys and Girls competition include - Queensland, New South Wales, ACT, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania. 14 teams with over 220 players, 40 plus officials and an estimate of 400 plus parents and supporters all converging on Cairns to take part in this wonderful event. Between 8.30am and 4.30pm the facility will be a buzz with young people challenging themselves to be the bets they can be, learning new skills, meeting new friends and exploring a wonderful part of the world in Far North Queensland. Cairns Hockey is proud to announce that Dr Ric Charlesworth AO will be coming to Cairns – 8th,9th and 10th August 2016 and you can be involved.

This is an opportunity not to be missed - Ric Charlesworth is coming to Cairns 8-10 August 2016 and thanks to Star 102.7 and Cairns Hockey - there are opportunities a plenty to be involved. From attending a coaching clinic, being involved in coaches workshops to being part of a dinner and listening to Ric, there is definitely something for everyone and its not limited to hockey. The former doctor, politician and sportsman, who coached the women’s hockey team—the Hockeyroos—through eight consecutive years of wins and captained the West Australian cricket team, has won a reputation for being tough. He has made a major career change every decade. Charlesworth also serves as a role model in that he recognises the importance of balance and making time for family and personal interests, as a look at his working life shows. He joined the motivational speaking circuit, giving presentations to major corporations around Australia and has written two non-fiction books. 2016 Cairns Under 13 State Championship Wrap

We are so proud of each and every single person involved in the 2016 Under 13 Cairns Teams to the State Championships. From the early morning to the late evening preparations, the travel, the uniforms, the competition and the cold, everyone whether they were at Sunshine Coast or Hervey Bay showed a spirit and a sense of being proud to be Cairns and the fact that our results were the best in a while was just a bonus. Making new friends, having fun and challenging yourself to be the best you can be is what this program is all about and our volunteer officials, our staff and our players all worked together to make this happen. 5 CAIRNS TEAMS OFF TO COMPETE IN QUEENSLAND UNDER 13 HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIPS – BOYS AND GIRLS –

Our Under 13 Girls Teams - all 3 of them are off the Hervey Bay today and tomorrow our Under 13 Boys Blue and Gold are off to the Sunshine Coast. Cairns Hockey is very proud to see our future represented so well and last nights uniform presentation say almost 100 players, parents, coaches, managers, umpires, Board members and staff attend and celebrate this wonderful occasion highlighting the positive nature of junior sport, opportunities, life experiences and the beginning of friendships that will in some cases last a lifetime. A special thanks to David, Matt, Wes and Carly who worked together to make this happen and all our supporters like ENDEAVOUR TRAVEL for assistance with all travel coordination and RED ENERGY for assistance with the HATS AND WRIST BANDS for the teams. a special thanks to KERRI BROWN from ALLSIGNSCAIRNS who coordinated the great jackets as well. $2.7 million dollar announcement for increased infrastructure at Cairns Hockey- What does it all mean?

This announcement will allow Cairns Hockey to continue to design and construct infrastructure including ablutions, dressing rooms and support facilities, improvements around Reef and Rainforest including viewing platforms and includes upgrading of training rooms to help indigenous young women and girls in the Aspire to be Deadly Program flourish while providing sustaining benefit to the broader community. These upgrades identified in the Cairns 2020 Vision will position cairns Hockey as a world class venue able to deliver a wide range of local /regional/state/national and international events and competitions. Investing in infrastructure provides opportunities to get young people involved in sport, promotes healthy lifestyle choices and meets the need for additional adult competition. ... [read more]
