Cairns Hockey Junior Umpiring Program – Passion and Patience

There is a significant focus of officiating and umpiring in 2018 at Cairns Hockey. It starts with the Junior Umpires Program and runs through the association to representative pathways. Our junior umpiring program (JUP) is designed to offer specialist training and mentoring for our younger members so they develop a solid understanding of the rules and how to officiating. This builds respect and responsibility from grassroots up. Cairns Hockey is offering accreditation and training from international umpires and officials 27 and 28 April 2018 with the chance of attaining accreditation to support this process. What a great 2 weeks of holiday activities at Cairns Hockey

It was the busiest school holiday program Cairns Hockey has delivered. Between 8 goalkeeping sessions, 2 days of holiday hockey fun and excitement and the Trinity Stingers Junior Umpires Camp, the facility was being used to support community participation and that is exactly what we are aiming to do. During this time the Under 15 State Team training and preparation was being concluded. Cairns Hockey will have its greatest representation across the Qld Under 15 Talent Squad as the Qld teams prepare for the upcoming National Under 15 Hockey Championships in Wollongong NSW. “The Cairns Players will be some of the best prepared athletes at the Australian Championships- the coach and players have been committed in their training and preparation. Child Protection – 7 lessons for sport from the Royal Commission’s report into child abuse

'Child protection' is concerned with keeping all young people under the age of legal responsibility safe from abuse, discrimination and harassment. It also involves protecting young people from those who are deemed unsuitable to be working with children, and from potentially harmful practices. Sporting organisations have legal and moral obligations to protect all children who participate or attend their organised (and sanctioned) events and activities. It is important clubs and their members understand that they have a duty of care to keep children safe. There are also Qld laws and legislation that sporting clubs and associations must comply and knowing your obligations and putting processes in place cannot be underestimated. BDO Aspire to be Deadly Hockey Program strengthening in 2018

Cairns Hockey is celebrating the BDO Aspire to be Deadly Hockey Program expansion and the collaborations with Aspire Schools and partner organizations that is becoming stronger and influencing greater number of indigenous young women and girls across the identified regions. Cairns Hockey is offering support programs through this program to individuals/clubs/schools and families who meet requirements and we welcome inquiry in this regard.
