CURRENT AND UPCOMING FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES

Under the Cairns Hockey Strategic Plan 2020 - one of the pillars identified was membership services and club support. To this end, Cairns Hockey Board has been identifying the areas where funding could be obtained and then join with clubs to apply and if successful deliver a broader range of services. The GET GOING FUNDING received in the last round was an example of this where CLUBS and CHA got together and identified the need for more young boys and made an application for funding support around this. WE RECEIVED support and we have identified TERM 4 2017 as the time specifically targeted programs for boys will be delivered - planning due to begin in Term 3. GREAT BARRIER REEF MASTERS GAMES -HOCKEY COMPETITION BEGINS ON THURSDAY

The Great Barrier Reef Masters Games was first held in Cairns, Queensland in 2013. Now in its third Games, the Masters will be held from 25 to 28 May 2017. Cairns is the ideal location to host the Games, being one of Australia's most popular holiday destinations with a myriad of local attractions, dining, adventure sports, reef activities and entertainment within close proximity to the city centre. 2,000 masters-aged men and women from Australia, Oceania and South East Asia are anticipated to compete in 20 individual and team sports across the four days of competition with sports for all masters ages and interests. Cairns Hockey Officiating Committee Members are making themselves available to conduct a series of Junior Umpiring Clinics to assist the introduction to umpiring and to share with interested people knowledge and understanding in the area of introductory and developing umpiring starting SATURDAY MORNING at the CAIRNS HOCKEY CLUBHOUSE. 2 SESSIONS AVAILABLE AT 9.30AM OR10.30AM. HAWTHORN SHIELD WRAP UP 2017

It was a great weekend for Cairns highlighting our teams, our supporters, our great volunteer umpires and officials, team officials, parents and staff working together for the greater good of Cairns Hockey. How very proud we all are of our Association as a whole. Thanks Townsville for travelling and bringing up great competition and wonderful supporters. The final accumulated totals across the 36 games was CAIRNS 69 AND TOWNSVILLE 36. ALL ABOUT HAWTHORN SHIELD – INFORMATION ON WHATS GOING ON

In 2017 Cairns Hockey is celebrating 90 years of hockey in the region. Men's Hockey representative games against Townsville began in 1933 when Mr Vidgen a QHA official was in North Queensland on a business trip and he donated the Vidgen Cup for annual competition between Cairns and Townsville.  The women were already playing a series of games against Townsville and joined with the Men in 1933.
